Animated Exquisite Corpse

I played the role of Art Director and contributor (my animation was the transforming goldfish) for this winning submission to the 2015 Stanhope Digital Art Competition in Raleigh, NC. The piece brings the traditional surrealist’s collaborative creation experiment, the exquisite corpse, to the digital medium in a new and innovative way. Historically done on paper, the technique has been modified to take advantage of the digital format and layout of the bank of LCD screens in the lobby of the new Stanhope building. Instead of static images however, each artist created a 10 second animation that would begin and end at predetermined points on a blank screen highlighting the contributing artist’s creativity as they demonstrate the endless possibilities of the prompt.

When the piece is viewed as a whole, the animations play on each screen in a randomized order, giving a unique and ever-changing experience for the audience and providing ambient animations that serve the viewer’s divided or full attention as they pass through the space.
